ADOLESCENT HEALTH STATISTICS AND TRENDS Adolescents (10-19 years) constitute 24% of the population Young people aged 10-24 years constitute about 36% of the population CPR -married adolescent girls (15-19) 37% Teenage pregnancy rate 18% Unmet need for FP 23% Domestic violence – 30% of married adolescent girls MMR twice as high in women 15-19 compared to those 20-34 years HIV- Knowledge on HIV and HIV testing rates increasing - Constitute 29% of New HIV Infections Other Issues: - NCDs - Suicide rates - School drop outs Drugs and substance abuse 18% of 15-17 yrs olds reported ever using any drug FGM declined from 20% in 2003 to 11% in 2014

Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016-30) Progressively increase government allocation to health with particular focus on women, children, adolescents Continue to provide free maternal and child health care services and remove user fees at government primary care facilities and to introduce a policy ensuring universal health coverage in line with Vision 2030 Implement laws, policies and strategies that support gender equality and women’s empowerment Ensure the mobilization of budget line for contraceptives, vaccines and other life-saving commodities for women, children and adolescents Support and strengthen implementation of strategies which ensure access to sexual reproductive health information and services to adolescents
