Drawn to Jesus John 6:44-45 People can be drawn to the church, the preacher, etc., in many ways. Suppers, games, parties etc. will draw people to the church. Charisma and sensationalism will draw people to the preacher. People can be drawn to Jesus in only one way (John 6:44-45), “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God. ' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” Let us answer two questions about being drawn to Jesus: Why be drawn to Jesus? How are we drawn to Jesus?

Why be drawn to Jesus? He is the one sent from God (44, John 3:16) (44), “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (cf. John 3:16), “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Why be drawn to Jesus? He is the one sent from God (44, John 3:16) He is God (John 1:1,14; 20:28) (John 1:1, 14), “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (14), “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 20:28), “And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"

Why be drawn to Jesus? He is the one sent from God (44, John 3:16) He is God (John 1:1,14; 20:28) He is the source of eternal life (John 6:27,40) (John 6:27), “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.“ (John 6:40), “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

Why be drawn to Jesus? He is the one sent from God (44, John 3:16) He is God (John 1:1,14; 20:28) He is the source of eternal life (John 6:27,40) He is our Savior/Redeemer (Titus 2:14) (Matthew 1:21), “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Titus 2:14), “who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” Not from all of life’s problems (cf. John 16:33), “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.“ Not from temporal consequences of sin, but guilt and eternal consequences.

Why be drawn to Jesus? He is the one sent from God (44, John 3:16) He is God (John 1:1,14; 20:28) He is the source of eternal life (John 6:27,40) He is our Savior/Redeemer (Titus 2:14) He is Lord and King! (Acts 2:36; 1 Tim. 6:14-15) (Acts 2:36), “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.“ (1 Timothy 6:14-15), “that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords” At “right hand of God” as head and king (cf. Ephesians 1:20-23), ”which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Lord, King, and Head means he is control our lives.

How to be drawn to Jesus? Teaching, hearing and learning (45) Not direct, divine intervention (v. 45), [Note: immediate context denies religious error on this matter], “It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God. ' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” Not “better felt than told” experience. Not direct divine intervention. But, accepting evidence in the gospel and acting upon it. (Romans 10:10-13), “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."

How to be drawn to Jesus? Teaching, hearing and learning (45) Not direct, divine intervention Believing evidence, and obeying Christ (cf. Acts 8:30-39) Belief alone is not enough! (Must repent, confess and be baptized!) (cf. Acts 8:30-39) [Ethiopian Eunuch, paraphrase], (36-38), “Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?“ 37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may."And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.“ 38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.” Happiness, good feelings, rejoicing accompanies salvation, but is not evidence of it. Believing alone not enough (cf. John 12:42-43), “Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” 3. Must repent, confess and baptized (Luke 13:3), “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Rom. 10:10), “with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Acts 2:38), [baptism], “for the remission of sins.”

We must draw them to Christ! Conclusion The point is not to just draw people to the church We must draw them to Christ! A. Not interested in just drawing people to the church – but to Jesus. B. When one is drawn to Jesus, he is drawn to the church (Acts 2:47). (Acts 2:47), “praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
