Y.O.U Background Established in August 2015 Set up following the completion of my PHD at the UWS Y.O.U is a Princes Trust supported business

Y.O.U Mission Statement Your Options Understood is a Community Interest Company that provides independent information, advice and training services for disabled individuals and anyone involved in their daily support. The services provided will be delivered from a team who can offer first hand advice and support from their experiences of living with and / or working with those with disabilities. We understand the barriers and obstacles that those living with a disability and those who support them may face and have to overcome.

Y.O.U Mission Statement Our goal is to assist in overcoming these hurdles by advising and informing our customers of their options, allowing them to make informed choices, ensuring that they have the right support to allow them to live their lives the way they choose. Y.O.U is a non-profit organisation established to benefit the community it supports. We maintain a friendly and positive working environment, respecting diversity with our customers and workforce at the heart of it.

Why I Set Up Y.O.U I set up you because after university I felt it was the right time for me to use my knowledge and experience of living with a disability to help and support other disabled individuals and those involved in their daily support ; parents, family carers, support workers and support providers as well as anyone else involved in an individuals daily support.

Y.O.U’s Services Advocacy Consultancy Self directed support advice Staff training

What Is Self Directed Support? The Self- directed support act 2013 Self-directed support (SDS) allows people to choose how their support is provided to them by giving them as much ongoing control as they want over the individual budget spent on their support.

What Is Self Directed Support? Self-directed support explained; The Scottish Government believes everyone should be in control of their life. Some people need support to lead an independent life and advocacy to be empowered make important decisions about their life.  In order to achieve this the Scottish Government introduced The Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013. The Act came into force on 01 April 2014 Self-directed Support allows people, their carers and their families to make informed choices on what their support looks like and how it is delivered, making it possible to meet agreed personal outcomes.

Principles of Self Directed Support Right to independent living Right to a personal budget Right to self-determination Right to accessibility Right to flexible funding Accountability principle Capacity principle The Four options of SDS Option 1. Direct Payments A payment to allow you to arrange support to meet your agreed support plan outcomes. Option 2. Individual Service Fund Where the council or a chosen provider who will hold the budget but you are in charge of how it's spent. Option 3. Local Authority 'arranged' support The council arranges support on your behalf to meet your support plan outcomes. Option 4.  A combination A combination of the above options can also be used if you feel this provides the best solution.

7 Stages Of the SDS Process

Does an individual need to spend all of their SDS budget on buying in support services? NO!!! An individual can chose to spend their budget in areas of their lives that they feel can be enhanced by it.
