Outline Introduction. How Skilled is Your Thinking (Right Now)? Good Thinking is as Easy as Bad Thinking. The Hard Cruel World. Becoming a Critic of Your Own Thinking. Conclusion.

Introduction Why is it important? Critical thinking is to ensure that you use the best thinking you are capable of in any set of circumstances. Poor thinking in turn, inevitably causes problems , wastes time and energy. We all have multiple choices to make, thus we need the best information to make the best choices.

How skilled is your thinking (right now) ? Ask yourself these questions: What have you learned about how you think? Do you really know how to analyze, evaluate, or reconstruct your thinking? Where does your thinking come from? How much of it is of “good” quality? How much of it is of “poor” quality?

If your answers run along the lines of: “ well, I suppose I really don’t know much about my thinking or about thinking in general.” Then you are of the majority, as serious thinking about thinking is rare.

Everything we do, want, or feel is influenced by our thinking. For example: All of us make generalizations when we don’t have the evidence to back them up. Ignore or attack points of view that conflicts with our own.

As you discover these problems, you’ll begin to ask yourself these key question. Is it possible for me to learn to avoid bad habits of thoughts? Is it possible for me to develop good habits of thoughts? To become a skilled critic of your thinking you should make learning about thinking a priority.

It is important to realize that thinking itself is not difficult. Good thinking is as easy as bad thinking(but it requires hard work to develop it ) It is important to realize that thinking itself is not difficult. Humans naturally think without doing effort and without having to exert much energy or engage in any real intellectual work For example: *children *adult

To become better at thinking We say ” No pain , no gain!) but It would be more precise to say: “No intellectual pain , no intellectual gain!”.

We typically think without explicitly noticing how we are doing . You might compare the way we learn how to think the way we learned how to speak our native language. For example:

How to solve it Critical thinking, provides the tools of mind you need to think well through any and everything that requires thought.

The Hard Cruel World Most people have problems in their own thinking Hard to find people who can help us to improve our thinking To be a critical thinkers, we have to learn by ourselves how to analyze and improve our thinking What help can you expect from the world about you in becoming a critical thinker ? Critical Thinkers !

The Hard Cruel World To Improve our thinking, we Also have to integrate the three dimensions of thought. Be idealistic Be realistic Be pragmatic Our ideal and goal

Become a Critic of Your Own Thinking Everyone thinks that it is our nature to be critical thinkers, but it is not. To improve ourselves, we have to: learn how to be critical thinkers. Discover our thinking. Make foundational changes in our own thinking.

Become a Critic of Your Own Thinking Critical thinking adds a second level of thinking to ordinary thinking 1st order thinking Is spontaneous and nonreflective. It contains insight, prejudice, truth and error, good and bad reasoning. 2nd order thinking The 1st order thinking raised to the level of conscious realization ( analyzed, assessed, and reconstructed).

Conclusion Critical thinking enables you to become more successful. To save time and energy. It is in your interest to become a better critic of your thinking.
