Year 10 and 11 Pathways – How will you make sure you have the best opportunities in your future career?

We want to help you.... To get onto the best possible post 16 courses in 2019. To have the maximum amount of choice when you do this. To have a set of qualifications which will have the maximum amount of respect from employers, universities and colleges.

Aspirational Thinking……

Aspirations don’t always involve university….

What is a Pathway?

A Pathway is.... A package of courses that will allow each student to enter the next phase of school after Year 11 with the best collection of possible qualifications. All pathways contain English, Maths and Science qualifications, plus a choice of History or Geography. Many students will also study French or German.

Typically a Student Might Leave With.... English iGCSE Art GCSE Geography GCSE Maths GCSE Computing GCSE French GCSE Science GCSE ENGLISH BACCALAUREATE

English Baccalaureate Academic Pathway English, Maths, double or triple Science, Core PE, PSHE Choice of Language (French or German) History or Geography Plus choice of 3 other qualifications and a reserve This route will provide maximum academic challenge and an excellent route through to 'A' Levels and Higher Education.

Academic Pathway English, Maths, Double Science, Core PE, PSHE History or Geography Plus choice of 3 other qualifications and a reserve This route will provide a good route through to 'A' Levels and then Higher Education or employment with a good range of GCSE subjects.

C-NAT, Technical Certificate & BTEC Level 2 If you think that you might take a C-NAT or BTEC in Sixth Form then a C-NAT, Technical Certificate or BTEC in Year 10 and 11 prepares very well for BTEC in Sixth Form. They are also valued by many employers.

For A Level preparation: If you think that you might take an 'A' Level in that subject or a related one, you are better off studying it as a GCSE as it will prepare you well for future study.

For You to Consider: Which subjects do you really enjoy? What might you want to study at Sixth Form or College? Which subjects open the most doors in the future?

What can you do to get help? Your teachers Your tutor and Head of House Parents The Careers Adviser Websites such as : www.ucas.com for university entry https://www.gov.uk/topic/further-education-skills/apprenticeships for apprenticeships
