Learning Intentions On completion of this unit you should be able to: State that multicellular organisms contain more than one cell type. State what is meant by a specialised cell State that plant cells have a structure that allows the to carry out their function and give an example. State that animal cells have a structure that allows them to carry out their function and give an example. What are multicellular organisms? Multicellular organisms have more than one cell type and are made up of tissues and organs. Copy this definition into the bottom of page 3.

Levels of Organisation in Animals Animals have levels of organisation in their bodies that allows them to function efficiently.

Specialised Cells Specialised cells that perform specific functions group together to form tissues e.g. muscle cells group together to form muscle tissue. Tissues work together to form organs with specific functions e.g. the heart contains muscle and nervous tissue. The cells in organs are specialised for their function e.g. the muscle cells in the heart are able to contract in a regular pattern. This allows the heart to beat and pump blood round the body. Organs work together forming a system. The heart is part o the circulatory system, which also includes the blood vessels.

Success Criteria I can state that multicellular organisms have more than one cell type and are made up of tissues and organs. I can recognise that the structure of a cell is related to its function. I can give examples of how cell structure is related to its function.
