Type Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body. It's tougher to treat than most strains of staphylococcus aureus or staph because it's resistant to some commonly used antibiotics. The symptoms of MRSA depend on where you're infected.

Description Mrsa is a very common germ that about 1 out of every 3 people have on their skin or in their nose. The germ does not cause many problems for most people who have it but sometimes it can cause infections. Mrsa is a type of staph that is resistant to some antibiotics that are given to treat staph infections.

History MRSA was first identified in the 1960s by doctors who had patients with it in the hospital. It came to the United States in 1968. Identified in a British study. (1960) First hospital outbreak of MRSA in the United State was at the Boston City Hospital, Massachusetts.

Map of MRSA outbreaks in the US.

Symptoms The symptoms are swollen painful red bumps that might resemble a pimple or a spider bite. The affected area might be warm to the touch. Full of pus or other drainage

Transmission (How it’s spread) MRSA is transmitted most frequently by direct skin-to-skin contact or shared items or surfaces that have come into contact with someone else's infected site. Kids in daycare are likely to get it because there is so many germs and infectious bacteria in one place.

Cures or Treatment Cure of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is Methicillin, Amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin.

Antibiotics to cure/help MRSA.
