Guatemala City Attractions Cantaloupe-colored Post office Santo Tomas de Castilla Mundo Petapa is located in the centre of Guatemala City in an area that is probably best summarised by the widespread presence of armed guards. Enthusiasts shouldn’t let the slightly dodgy location put them off, though; the park behind the walls is top notch, with a substantial number of high quality attractions. The adult rides in the park were only opened in August of this year, marking the coming of age of a park that was until recently aimed at children only. Cantaloupe-colored post office is one of the loveliest buildings in the city. Santo Tomas de Castilla: It is true that the one-time "jewel of Central America" has lost much of its luster. The fact remains that the isthmus' largest metropolis has exactly what you'd expect from an urban area of 2.5 million people—the best selection of restaurants, hotels, nightlife, shopping, and museums in the country. The country's only true city does grow on you, although it probably takes longer than the typical short visit that most travelers give the place. Mundo Petapa
