Effect Of Hydrogen Diesel Dual-fuel In Emission And Performance Of Four Stroke Diesel Engine SUBMITTED BY idoldear.com

ABSTRACT Diesel engines are prime movers for transport, agriculture, power house etc…. Diesel engines have high emissionrate&limited reserve. Hence we want to find an alternative fuel Hydrogen is expected to be the most important fuel in near future Hydrogen reduces the emission of HC,CO,CO2,etc…..

INTRODUCTION SCOPE AND BACKGROUND Limited reserve of fossil fuel High vehicular pollution Emission legislations getting strict Dual-fuel Technology

What Is A Dual Fuel ENGINE? A dual-fuel diesel engine is a diesel engine that utilize hydrogen as a supplemental fuel Automatically able to run on 100% diesel when Hydrogen is not available Reduces emissions , improve performance Various gaseous fuels can be used

What Is A Dual Fuel ENGINE? Air and Hydrogen enter the cylinder The Air and Hydrogen gas mixture is compressed What Is A Dual Fuel ENGINE? As the piston reaches top dead centre a reduced amount of diesel is injected into the cylinder The air and hydrogen gas mixture combusts as a result of the diesel injection

WHY HYDROGEN IS BEST ALTERNATIVE FUEL? No harmful emissions Environmentally friendly Efficient Produced from many primary energy sources NEED OF HYDROGEN DIESEL DUAL-FUEL High auto-ignition temperature Very low cetane number

How Can Hydrogen Burn Cleaner than Diesel? Diesel fuel, Oil, Coal, the other fossil fuels, are chemically complex. They contain higher proportions of carbon and hydrogen. Hydrogen gas is a Diatomic molecule (H2) - 2 protons, 2 electrons. That's what makes hydrogen burn so cleanly.

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP Single cylinder 4 stroke engine Eddy current dynamometer Fuel burette-fuel consumption 5 gas analyser Opacimeter- Smoke

Hydrogen Induction Circuit Timed manifold injection (TMI) systems Inbuilt flame arrestor Emergency shut off valve Flame trap Mass flow rate of hydrogen - 0.15 kg/h Timed manifold hydrogen induction circuit

procedure Diesel operation Fired at no load Constant speed-1500 rpm Taken to full load through 20% increments Hydrogen diesel dual-fuel Mass flow of hydrogen set to .15kg/h Taken to 80% full load through 20% increments

CONCLUSION CO emission was reduced by up to 67.5% and CO2 by 71% Maximum reduction of smoke up to 64.28% Reduction in specific energy consumption up to 41.4% Successful to operate the existing diesel engine without any flashback of hydrogen NOx emission get increased

FUTURE SCOPE Study working engine at various flow rate of hydrogen varying the induction period of hydrogen for different cam profiles or dedicated electronic hydrogen injection systems analyse the dual-fuel engine based on cost benefit
