Free Powerpoint Templates Page 2 IL superfamily, a member of larger group cytokines, is consisting of proteins called interleukins and interleukin receptors. IL superfamily members involve with variety of processes, including immunity, inflammation, and the formation of blood cells. IL superfamily members promote the growth of immune system cells and help regulate the immune system. The subfamilies of IL superfamily include IL-1 subfamily, IL-6 subfamily, IL-10 subfamily, IL-12 subfamily, IL-17 subfamily and other interleukins or receptors. Till now, 43 different IL family members have been identified according to HGNC. Most interleukins are named with "IL" followed by one or more numbers and letters (for example, IL12B) so that interleukin receptors have similar names. What’s more, they are also followed with "R" to show that they are receptor proteins (such as IL36RN).

Free Powerpoint Templates Page 3 Interleukin Pathway Proteins of interleukins (IL) family regulate numerous biochemical events, for example, cellular proliferation and long-term survival. The major pathways involved in these events are the JAK kinases, signal transducers and activators of transcription (STATs), mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) and src- family kinases and phosphotidylinositol 3- kinase (PI 3K). These pathways are introduced in detail in the following sections.

Free Powerpoint Templates Page 4 IL Family related Drugs Glucocorticoids are chemicals that can suppress the cell- mediated immunity by stopping Inflammation. Inflammation is the source of many illnesses, for instance, autoimmune diseases and allergies. Glucocorticoids function by inhibiting the secretion of some cytokines, including Interleukin (IL) 1, IL 2, IL 3, IL 4, IL 5, IL 6, IL 8, and TNF. The decrease of cytokine production leads that T cell proliferation reduces. What’s more, glucocorticoids can suppress the humoral immunity which leads B cells to express fewer amounts of IL 2 and IL 2 receptors.
