–– Designing a Walking Tour –– 1) Curiosities and Concerns 2) Locations 3) Stakeholders and Experts

Transportation, esp Public Renewable Energy, esp Solar Cultural Institutions Community Diverse Ecosystems Urban Heat Island The Public Square Sprawl Historic Preservation –– Curiosities and Concerns ––

Solar Energy & Biofuels Water Transportation & Public Spaces

–– Locations –– Make use of “sites” and “sidebars” “Hidden spaces”

–– Locations –– Doing a full dry run at least a week before is key! Chances are you’ll discover “sidebars” and have to re-scope Timing and organization is important. Walking will take longer and be more disorderly than you anticipate!

–– Stakeholders and Experts –– Diversity! Draw on networks Use your institutional affiliation Be persistent, don’t be afraid to cold call Prep each individual

–– Example of Prepping Stakeholders and Experts –– "Carlo will introduce you, Deedee and Suzanne at the start, and then you will go to the rooftop installation. Taking about 5 minutes each, Deedee will tell the story about how the panels came to be, and you [a solar scientist] will then present your perspectives on the social and political dimensions of solar energy in Arizona. Next you will field questions and engage in discussion. Feel free to ask questions of the group, involving them in your ideas. This is the citizens’ opportunity to learn more about solar energy in the community and to develop their own views."
