Communicative Function: Asking for and Giving Advice W hen you are faced with a problem or have important decision to make, it is always valuable to seek advice from others. You need another person’s perspective to help you see the situation more clearly although in the end you will have to make your own decisions. On the other hand, other people may come to you and ask for your advice on something, in which case you should help them by offering your point of view. How do you approach a person and ask for his advice about how to solve a problem you are facing? How do you give advice to someone while allowing him the freedom to make his own choices? How do you express your appreciation for someone’s advice even if you don’t find it so helpful?
