INTRODUCTION  Shakespeare’s popular comedy  It was written between  It was first shown: 1633  Theories: Shakespeare might copy the plot  This comedy got into the folio in 1623  Source of the prologue derive from: „One Thousand and One nights”

PLOT  A nobleman makes a prank: makes a man believe that he is a nobleman too  Target: Christopher Sly, a poor tinker  A troup of actors present a play (makes up the main story of „The Taming of the Shrew”)  Shrew: Katherine  Her sister: Bianca  Their father doesn’t let Bianca marry until Katherine gets engaged  Find a man who may be able to tame the shrew: Petruchio

THE STUCTURE OF THE WORK  A lot of characters, different places  Framing device: emphasize the importance of the spectators  Lot of references to the author’s hometown: Statrford-upon-Avon  Shrew has 2 meanings: the animal, describe unbearable woman  It wasn’t written in verse

INTERESTING FACT- WOMAN’S POINT OF VIEW  Independent and working woman was not known  Famous and disrepoutable in one  Theaters want to make it less inhuman and woman-hater

OPINION  Fascinating  Entartaning  Funny  Good films based on this Shakespeare drama
