Nature of Work Drive fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles to emergencies. Put out fire using hoses and pumps. Treat victims’ injuries with emergency medical services Clean and maintain equipment Provide public education on fire safety

Training Entry level you must go threw several weeks of training at the state fire academy Several hours of classroom instruction You must have a high school diploma or an equivalent Apprenticeship that lasts up to 4 years. 1 federal training session is required

Other requirements Must be 18 years of ago Must have a valid drivers license Must be able to pass random drug tests EMT certification Physicals and many interviews must also be passed

Job outlook Tough competition for positions Expected to grow 9% From its expected 26,600 new firefighters will join the force Growth population will increase the number of emergency calls Jobs will be crated also as volunteer firefighters turn into career firefighters
