Chapter 17 Odysseus bends the great bow Athena reminded Penelope about her plan. Penelope declares that she will marry whoever bends the great bow. No suitor succeed. Odysseus proved his identity to Philoetius and Eumaeus PLAN: Odysseus planned to tell all the women servants to locked the door as Eumaeus brings the bow to him. Odysseus gave the key to Philoetius and asked to lock the courtyard at once. Odysseus, as the old beggar, bends the bow. He gave Telemachus a signal for preparing to fight.

Chapter 18 The slaughter of the suitors Odysseus killed Antinous, the suitors were terrified and thought it was an accident. As the fight begins, Melanthius betrayed Odysseus and brought weapons for the suitors. Athena turned into Mentor. Mentor encouraged Odysseus and Telemachus to win the battle. Agelaous, commanded the suitors to throw the spears six a time toward Odysseus first, but Athena turned them aside in their courses. Odysseus won the battle. The harpist and Medon were saved. The disloyal women servants were all killed after doing the gruesome job of taking out the bodies. They cut off Melanthius’s nostrils and ears and threw them to the dogs. They lopped off his hands and feet in their fury and left him there to die. ____________________________________________

Chapter 19 Odysseus and Penelope Penelope  shock and want to test the beggar (Odysseus) to see if he is telling the truth Penelope asked Odysseus to move the bed, which is impossible. Odysseus knew this was not possible, which proved his true identity because he and Penelope are the only ones who know the secret of the bed. Penelope finally believed him Odysseus told her his journey all night. Odysseus prepared to go see his father.

Chapter 20 The Feud is Ended Odysseus was sad that his father Laertes did not recognized him. The suitor’s family was very angry because of what Odysseus had done. Laertes, Odysseus’s father, was killed by the suitors When they were about to fight, Athena came and made peace. The journey of Odysseus has finally ended. He has his home, his family, and his wealth back.
