OBJECTIVE We will be able to name careers in the career clusters of Business, Finance, Government, Human Services, Information Technology, and Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics.

CAREER CLUSTER What is a Career? A person’s WORK or JOB Most people work for 30 years or longer WOW! That’s a long time! What is a Career Cluster? A way to organize careers or jobs into groups that are similar.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION Business: Making a living through commerce (buying, selling, & trading). Management: process of dealing with and controlling people. Administration: process of running a business or organization. How do people make money in business? What is the difference between management and leading? What are some jobs that fit into this cluster? What are some things you would need to be good at to work in this field?

FINANCE Finance: The management of large amounts of money. Where do you think most individuals in Finance will work? How do you think people make money in Finance? What are some jobs in Finance? What do you think you would need to be good at to work in this field?

GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION Government: Those chosen to make the regulations for a community, state, country, or group of countries. Public Administration: Implementation of government policies. What are the ways that individuals can work in this field? What are some careers in this cluster? HUMAN SERVICES Human Services: Providing for the needs of people and improving their quality of life. What are human needs? What are some needs that individuals many need assistance with in their daily lives? What are some careers that fall into this cluster? SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING & MATHEMATICS (STEM) Science: Systematic study of the world through observations and experimentation. Technology: The application of scientific knowledge usually in the form of machinery. Engineering: Use of science & technology to design, build, and use engines, machinery, and structures. Mathematics: Science of numbers, quantity, and space. Why is this such a fast growing cluster? Why is this the only cluster that includes jobs not found on earth? What careers would fit into this cluster? What do you think you would need to be good at to work in this field?
