System Overview

Changes SD card mount File storage moved to computer Local storage no longer needed Power Cheaper Easier implementation Enough battery life

The Tutor Sensor Envelope Sensor Input Ports Serial Port Voltage Regulator Powered by 9V battery Sensor

Microcontroller Programmable processor Serial Communication with PC ADC onboard convert analog signal to digital signal Support 6 sensors Integrated power circuit

Microcontroller Schematic

Sensor Envelope Unit Modular design Multiple units for multiple surfaces Powered by 9V battery Unity gain buffer

Sensor Schematic RC envelope circuit Resistors in parallel with sensor input to discharge sensor capacitor Unity gain buffer with 9V to 0V rail voltage only positive voltage for simple processing

Software

Converter Programmable processor Serial Communication with PC ADC onboard convert analog signal to digital signal Support 6 sensors Integrated power circuit

R&V – Power Supply (Voltage) Vmax: 4.962V Vmin: 4.855V

R&V – Power Supply (Current) Current: mA Battery life rating: 600mAh/ mA = 10.16h (Estimate)

R&V – Sensor circuit Yellow line is output signal and green line is raw input signal Sensor circuit envelope the input signal

R&V – Microcontroller Purple part is the input from ADC Highlighted peaks are output of microcontroller Top diagram shows the peak detection on a drum Bottom diagram shows the peak detection on a box Drum Box

R&V – Interface Blue box: cue (Read from file) White box: hitbox Green circle: correct hit Red circle: incorrect hit

Room for improvement MIDI conversion Standalone function and can be achieved by external programs LED feedback Microcontroller only has 1 serial port for data transmission Microcontroller with multiple serial ports needed

Future Developments Adjust sensor envelope amplitude for different surface with potentiometer. Use standalone ADC for faster and more accurate sampling Add Bluetooth module for better portability Use voltage regulator with higher efficiency Use delicate enclosures for better durability
