Set up your circuit board 2 batteries, bulb, switch, and variable resister.

Measuring the current across an OPEN switch, record the amount of current for dial settings Why do you have to measure the current through an open switch and not a closed one? Measure the current across a closed switch and explain the difference in readings.

Determine the resistance of the three MYSTERY resistors! In your kit there are three mystery resistors: blue, green, and red. In your lab, write down a procedure that uses Ohm’s Law to determine the resistance of each resistor (without direct measurement of the resistance). Set up your circuit board and draw the circuit diagram. Use the appropriate diagram pictures. Show your data and analysis for calculating the resistance of the 3 mystery resistors.

If you’re stuck, this is one possible circuit.

Set up your circuit as seen above.

Pick 5 pot dial settings and record the voltage drops across the pot meter and the bulb. What is the relationship between the voltage drop across the pot and the voltage drop across the bulb? What does the voltage drop tell you about the electrical energy carried by the circuit? What is the relationship between both voltage drops and the battery voltage?

Use your knowledge of electricity to create the following circuits: 1.Two Switches, Two Bulbs: One switch turns both bulbs on/off and the other switch turns one bulb on/off. DRAW THE CIRCUIT DIAGRAM! 2.One Switch, Two Bulbs: When you close a switch, one bulb lights. When you open it, that bulb goes out and a different one lights. 1.Brighter/Dimmer: Using a variable resistor, set up a circuit where if you dim one light bulb, the other gets brighter. DRAW THE CIRCUIT DIAGRAM!
