Malala Yousafzai The Girl who stood up for Education and changed the World!

Malala’s story Malala Yousafzai was born on 12th July 1997 in Mingora Pakistan. Her family owns a lot of schools in Pakistan and Malala’s father always encouraged her to be educated. Pakistan is mainly a Moslem country were woman and children don’t have a lot of freedom and rights. Malala always thought this was unfair and wanted to get an education an become a doctor. The Taliban, a terrorist group, took over the village were Malala lived and closed all schools for girls. They also banned all Television, Music and Girls Education. She started writing notes about what happened in the village and gave it to a BBC journalist. The Taliban found out about the notes and threatened to kill her father. These threads just inspired Malala even more and she decided to become a politician. The Taliban then announced that they are going to kill Malala because she was going against their reign. On 9th October 2012, Malala was on her way home from school on a bus when it was stopped by the terrorists. She got shot in the head and the bullet went through her neck and got stuck in her shoulder. It was a miracle that she survived and she had to get lots of operations. While she was in hospital people like Barak Obama and Queen Elizabeth supported her. On her 16th birthday she gave a speech at the United Nations and the day was called “Malala Day” She is the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Piece Prize , she was only 17 years old.

Quote from her speech to the United Nations on 12 July 2013 “The terrorist thought they would change my aims and stop my ambitions, but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born……” Malala now lives in England and is a motivational speaker and student. She is a young leader that will still inspire lots of people. Project done by Joshua Coote and Nicke De Ridder

Why Malala is a good Leader: She has courage - Malala stood up for what se believed in. She is brave – she had to fight for her life after being shot and never gave up. She is fearless- not even the terrorists could stop her from her mission to help young girls get an education. She inspires people - young people all over the world now believe in getting educated.
