 Terra Cotta Warriors BY KFEER RACHLIN AND LUKA VUJIC

HOW THEY WERE DISCOVERED  Introduction In 1974 a group of farmers started digging around Qin’s tomb to find water and instead they found a life size statue o a soldier. This made the archeologists curious, who then began excavating. They thought there work would be done in two weeks, but it took year. Like the proverbial tip of the iceberg Qin Shi Huang’s army was coming back from the underworld and an army of 8,000 Terra Cotta Warriors dressed in full war regalia.

About the Terra Cotta Army   The Terra Cotta Army was buried with their emperor Qin Shi Huang so he would be able to rule another empire in the afterlife. All of the Terra Cotta Warriors were arranged in attack formation with crouching crossbow men, kneeling archers and straight backed soldiers too. All of these great Terra Cotta Warriors died facing east like shown in the right side picture.

PIT 1  PIT 1  Pit 1 is the largest pit of all pits holding 6,000 terra cotta soldiers. Pit 1 has 11 corridors. Pit meters long (750 feet long). Pit 1 is the main army of all terra cotta warriors.

PIT 2 Pit 1 might be the biggest pit but pit 2 is most impressive. Pit 2 is where all the horse back riders are. Hundreds of warriors, horses and chariots are there today.

PIT 3  PIT 3  Pit 3 is the terra cotta warriors Head Quarters. But for some reason they have no heads! Pit 3 is where all high ranking officers would convene to strategize.
