Legislation Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 9 January, 2007 No.212 Article 160 “The activity of government bodies and other legal entities on formation and dissemination of ecological information”

Legislation Amendments to Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (changes put into art.160) Ministry of Energy is developing draft of new Rules that will regulate national PRTR structure, reporting, and other issues This document will be discussed at the Public environmental Council Preliminary date of the ratification of PRTR protocol is 2016

CSPC activity related to PRTR 3 years social project “Ecological Ranking of Industrial Enterprises of Kazakhstan” (Financed by ME RK) Forming a list of industrial enterprises of I categories Work out the Excel Form and sending it to enterprises Feedback from enterprises, clarification of any question regarding the filling in the Form Data collection and processing Ranking of participating enterprises Dissemination of information among interested stakeholders

CSPC activity related to PRTR Meeting with United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights and hazardous substances and wastes, Baskut Tuncak, who visited Kazakhstan 26 March-8 April Among other issues was mentioned the necessity to ratify PRTR in Kazakhstan as it’s essential for toxic waste management. In report he stated “Although the government has ratified the Aarhus Convention, it has not yet ratified the Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR Protocol), which could help realize the right to access to information on several respects”.
