Attitude …..a matter of choice

What comes to your mind?

First & Most Likely Responses…!!! Donkey!!! Good for Nothing Useless Least Glamorous Taken for granted animal ….seldom do we get the response that the donkey is one of the “hard working” and loyal animals.

How is our Attitude? We treat people and situations in the same manner as we do with the donkey We discount the good in them! We only look at the NEGATIVE side and start reacting….

Reaction and Attitude React

How REACTION works in most cases… First we take ACTION Then we STOP Then we THINK….and feel guilty for our behavior That is why others say….”Attitude Problem!”

The Rule 10% is what happens 90% is how to react/respond to what happens….this is your attitude and your choice.

How much do you see of an Iceberg?

ICEBERGS…. 10% is above the sea– 90% is below the sea Similarity? 10% is our Knowledge and Skills 90% is our Attitude and Choices

Consequences of Bad Reactions Blame, Complaints, Frustration Bitterness Resentment DRAMA Broken Relationship Ego and Hurt Panic and Anxiety High Level of Stress

Why do we have Attitudes and make the Choices we make? ENVIRONMENT Home School Work Place TV and other Media Culture and Traditions Our network of friends PAST EXPERIENCES Beliefs Perceptions Conditioning

Question?????? Are some born Positive?! Is there a Choice I have?

Find the Answer for YOURSELF!!!!!

There is a need for CHANGE in the way we Think, Feel and Behave!!!!

Let’s start by hitting the PAUSE button…

Let’s RESPOND instead of REACTING Press the PAUSE button STOP THINK ACT (problem solve wisely) You ALWAYS have the freedom to CHOOSE…..!!!!!

Press the PAUSE & Choose your Thoughts, Feelings and Behavior! STIMULUS INAPPROPRIATE REACTION Pause Button APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

Benefits of Practicing Good Attitudes and Choices Increase and Improve Productivity Better Grades Enhance Teamwork Problem Solving Skills and Approach Builds Relationships Reduces Stress, Conflicts and DRAMA! Enhances your Personality and Growth Increases Friendship

How to make these CHOICES and CHANGE your Thoughts, Feelings & Behaviors..

The 7 Step Approach

Step 1: Make the DECISION today to CHANGE Start with the First Step TODAY! DECIDE today – with which person, people, situation, circumstances, tasks, etc…in which you will change your ATTITUDE Attitude Behavior

Step 2: Shift your Focus Focus on What’s Right vs. What is Wrong Focus on What you DO have vs. What you DON’T Focus on Solutions and then on Problems

Step 3: Be more CURIOUS instead of Judgemental Instead of blaming and complaining, be curious and ask yourself the question….”Why is this person or situation like that….?” Also ask….“What can I change here in this situation or with this person?”

Step 4: Develop an Attitude of GRATITUDE I was crying for a pair of shoes until I saw a man without legs; I thanked God that at least I have legs. Find something to appreciate in a tough time or with a tough person or in a tough situation. Whenever you feel down, depressed or frustrated, see what can be acknowledged.

Step 5: Decide Not to be Perfect all the time! Stop having expectations that are TOO high from yourself and others. When expectations do not match thoughts…that is the beginning of negatives!!

Step 6: Believe in Yourself! This is not an inflated EGO but when you think and feel good about yourself….then you are able to see the same in others! Whatever you believe you achieve!

Step 7: Take Action….NOW You can’t just stand before the mirror and shout, “Positive Attitude”! Stop “Procrastination” and start NOW! Write down for the next 7 days…your new ACTION PLAN!

The 7 Steps Approach 1.Make a DECISION today to CHANGE! 2.Shift your FOCUS 3.Be more CURIOUS instead of Judgemental 4.Develop and Attitude of GRATITUDE 5.Decide it is OK to not be perfect all the time! 6.Believe in yourself! 7.Take Action..NOW!

The Choice is YOURS! With a BAD attitude, you can never have a positive day! With a POSITIVE attitude, you can never have a bad day!
