Chapter 1: Wanda

Wanda Petronski was a quiet girl and sat in the back corner of the classroom.

She lived in Boggins Heights, where most poor people lived

No one in her class lived there, so she walked by herself to school.

Because Wanda was quiet, no one noticed when she was absent on Tuesday.

Peggy and Maddie noticed she was gone because they wanted to make fun of her.

Chapter 2: The Dresses Game

A man named Mr. Svenson lives in Boggins Heights next to Wanda.

People and children were afraid of Mr. Svenson, and his creepy house.

Many children made fun of Wanda Petronski because of her odd last name.

Wanda didn’t have any friends.

Wanda wore the same faded blue dress everyday to school.

Some days on their way to school, the girls waited for Wanda

The girls would make fun of Wanda and ask her how many dresses she has.

She would always say she has 100 dresses and 60 pairs of shoes

Peggy would ask about her dresses everyday because they knew she was lying.

Maddie was sad that Peggy was making fun of Wanda.

Chapter 3: A Bright Blue Day

Maddie was very sad when Peggy bullied Wanda about her dresses.

Maddie tried to remember the first time they asked Wanda about her dresses.

She remembered that it all started on a bright blue October day.

On the way to school, all the girls were loved Cecile’s new red dress.

Wanda told the girls that she had 100 dresses.

All of the girls laughed at her because they didn’t believe her.

Chapter 4: The Contest

Maddie wanted to ask Peggy to stop asking Wanda about her dresses.

Maddie didn’t stand up to Peggy because she was afraid Peggy would start making fun of her too.

Maddie started thinking about the art contest.

The girls had to draw dress designs for the contest.

Maddie though Peggy would win because she is the best drawer in the class.

Chapter 5: The Hundred Dresses

The next day, Maddie and Peggy were excited to hear who won the contest.

When they walked into the room, there were hundreds of pictures of dresses.

The teacher announced that Wanda had drawn 100 beautiful dresses and won the contest.

All of the girls thought her drawings were pretty.

Then, the teacher got a note from Wanda’s father and read it to the class

The notes said that they were moving to the city because people bullied their family

Maddie felt bad because she had made fun of Wanda. She was sad that she didn’t stand up for Wanda.

Peggy and Maddie wanted to find Wanda to say sorry for bullying her.

Chapter 6: Up on Boggins Heights

Peggy and Maddie wanted to go to Boggins Heights to try to find Wanda.

They went to Wanda’s house. It was shabby but clean.

When they knocked on the door, no one was home. Wanda and her family were gone.

Maddie could not fall asleep that night. She wished she could apologize.

Maddie imagined stories where she stood up for Wanda when she was bullied

Maddie decided that she was wrong to not stand up for Wanda.

She believed that not saying anything is just as bad as bullying.

From then on, she will always speak up if someone is being bullied. Then she fell asleep.

Chapter 7: The Letter to Room 13

Peggy and Maddie wrote a letter to Wanda telling her she won the contest.

Later in December, their teacher got a letter from Wanda.

The letter said that Wanda got Maddie and Peggy’s letter and told them to keep one of her pictures.

Maddie hung up her picture in her room and saw that Wanda drew a picture of Maddie.

Peggy and Wanda realized that Wanda did like them and wanted to be their friend.
