Pupils of our school were given a task to describe one of the English speaking countries. Governing body of the school decided to send them to India to explore the fabulous country from the inside. This important mission was committed to the A-students and the best sportsman of the school. Boy: Where are we? Girl 1: I suppose it’s South Asia. Girl 2: To be more correct, we are in India! B.: Sounds like a name of a girl. G.1: What a silly-billy! It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area. G.2: And the second-most populous country in the world! B.: Now I begin to remember…. G.1: As usual. G.2: India is surrounded by the Indian Ocean in the South, the Arabian Sea in the West … G.1: And the Bay Bengal in the East. G.2: It borders on Pakistan in the West, China, Nepal and Bhutan in the North …, G.1:And on Bangladesh and Myanmar in the East B.: Oh, dear! How can you remember all this? G.2: What a lazy boy! You should read more books! G.1: If you read more, you will know that India is a very beautiful country. G.2: it is a country with great geographical variation. G.1: There are high mountains, deep valleys, tropical rain forest and dry plateaus here. B.: Have you ever been to India? G.1: No, I haven’t. But it has always been my dream. B.: And as I see your dream is coming true … G.2: Hush … Did you hear it? G.1: What is it? It sounds like a bear. B.: Don’t scream and show your fear! Girls (together); Aaaaaaaaa… 1

Появляется Маугли с Балу. Танцуют. Maugli: Don’t be afraid! It’s Baloo. G.2: What a huge bear! G.1: Then you must be Maugly! M.: That’s right! I have grown here in a wolf family. Have you read about me in a book? B.: Er…. G.2: Of course, we have. A famous English writer Kipling wrote about you in his Jungle Book. M.: You are quite right. Then you know that Baloo is my best friend and will do you no harm. Baloo: Glad to meet you. Sorry I have frightened you. B: That’s all right. I am not a coward. M.: But what are you doing here in the Jungle? It’s a dangerous place for people. G.1: We have the task to find as mush as possible about your country. Can you help us? M.: With great pleasure. There are a lot of interesting animals in our countries, such as Indian elephants and lions.. Baloo: Indian rhynoceros and red wolves … M.: Jakals and different kinds of monkeys. Baloo: Don’t forget our common friend black panther. M.: Of course not. There are so many various kinds of animals in our country that it’s impossible to name all of them. G.2: Thank you very much. G.1: You helped us a lot. B.: And where are you going now, if I can ask you? M.;: To the men village. Baloo: They are having an interesting festival there. M.: With music and dancing. Look! Here they are. Появляется девочка, танцующая индийский танец. B.: What a strange dance! G.2: You don’t understand. It’s a very traditional Indian dance. G.1: It reminds theatre.

B.: Is it the only way you dance? Indian girl: No. it isn’t. There are a lot of types of dancing in our country. Each form if dances represents the culture of a particular region or a group of people. G.1: And what kind of dancing is it? Indian girl: It’s Mohini. The theme of Mohini dance is love and devotion to god. The spectators can feel His invisible presence through circular movements and delicate footsteps. G.2: You are so beautiful…. G.1: …. and have such a nice dress. Indian girl: The Mohini dancer should have realistic make-up and a traditional Indian clothing. G.1: When I come back home I will also learn Indian dances. B.: And will dance like this…. (начинает кривляться) Indian girl: Of course it takes much time to learn to dance Indian dances correctly. I began learning at the age of three. G.2: Oh, did you?

На экране появляется изображение Тадж Махала. Boy: Look! What a nice building! What is it? Girl 1: Oh, it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Girl 2 It is called Taj Mahal. B.: How nice it is! And who has built such a wonderful palace? G.1: There is a legend connected with this building. They say Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (Шах-Джахан)constructed this monument in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal ( Мумтаз-Махал). G.2: She died in 1631, while giving birth to their 14th child. Look here he is himself. (Появляется император) E.: What shall I do now? My dear wife has died. How can I live without her? I loved her so much. I fell in love with her at the first sight. I was 14 years old then. She was a Muslim Persian princess. Five years later we got married. We have been living happily for 19 years. But now she is not with me. She will stay in my heart for ever! I know what I shall do! I shall build a monument in the memory of my beloved wife. It will be a wonderful palace of white marble. People all over the world will come here to admire it. Let it be so! (уходит) Boy: I believe he really loved his wife very much and built such a magnificent palace. Girl 1: You are quiet right. It took the Emperor 22 years to build it. This palace is the most beautiful monument in memory of his wife. G.2: By the way you know that India is a Motherland of the most popular game? Boy: What game do you mean? Girl 2: Chess, of course! This exiting game was invented in India many many years ago. That how it was it!

Появляется султан с шахматной доской. S.: Hey, vizier! I want to see that man who has invented this game. It’s fascinating! It’s so exiting and challenging that I can’t stop playing it! I want to award that great man. V. Yes, your Majesty. Here he is. Входит мудрец ( a wise man). S. Ask anything you like. W.M. : I would like one grain of rice for the first square of the board, two grains for the second, four grains for the third and so on doubled for each of the 64 squares of the game board. S.: Is that all? Why don’t you ask for gold or silver coins instead of rice grains? W.M.: The rice should be enough for me. S. : Hey, vizier, did you hear? Give this wise man as much rice as he wants. V.: Oh, your Majesty, I can’t do that. S.: What? Do you dare to argue with me? Hey, soldiers, hang him! V.: Oh, have pity, your Majesty. But it’s impossible to fulfill your wish. There isn’t so much rice in our whole kingdom. S.: What did you say? It can’t be so! V. : Alas! The best mathematicians of our kingdom counted that the rice he asked is around 18 billion billion. So if a bag of rice contained a billion grains, we will need 18 billion such bags. S.(to the wise man): You have provided me with such a great game and yet I cannot fulfill your simple wish. You are indeed a genius! But as a reward I’ll make you my top advisor. You’ll live in my palace and play chess with me every day. (уходят) Boy: And I can play chess too. I am a very good chess player. G.1: You are a very good boaster, aren’t you? G.2: Did you remember everything you heard? B.: Er… There was so much new information. And I have such a bad memory. Maugli: Don’t worry. We have a present for you. It’s a book about our country. Baloo: just open it and you will remember everything. B.: Thanks a lot.
