Business Intelligence in Classroom WHY:

 Purpose – knowledge to make an informed career decision  Process – Use Scrum method of project management to gather information on different careers  End Product – Showcase via poster of one engineering career and skills needed to pursue it Research Engineering Careers

Scrum Methodology Scrum – a meeting held every day to last about 10 minutes. The meeting addresses: 1. What has been accomplished since last meeting? 2. Any problems? 3. What will be accomplished before the next meeting?

 Student will know what is scrum and a sprint cycle and how is it organized  Student will understand role of a scrum master.  Student will use the scrum methodology to manage project  Student will research and present the end product to peers  Student will make an informed career decision Student Objective

 Scrum is a framework to help small group of people to develop complex deliverable product.  Product owner, scrum master and team members are the three main roles in a scrum  Scrum team has 4 – 5 people who work together over a sprint cycle.  A sprint cycle can be 1 – 2 week long or 3 – 4 week long.  Frequent review and readjust happens so as to keep team on track and be able to deliver the end product by the end of a sprint cycle. What is Scrum? What is a Sprint Cycle?

 Each Scrum starts with a sprint planning, where team members choose part of project they will complete over a two week period.  Daily scrum meetings will take place at the beginning of the class for 4 – 5 minutes.  Each team member will take 50 – 60 seconds to report on these three questions  What is the progress?  What are the problems encountered?  What they will do next? What is a Scrum meeting?

 A student is designated as the scrum master.  He/she will lead the scrum meeting for the group  Keeps the group on task  Collaboratively solves problems faced  Posts the sprint cycle task update on class Edmodo account.  The role of scrum master is rotated to a new person every week, over a sprint cycle. Role of Scrum Master in Scrum Meeting

 Scrum master will guide team to solve problems faced within the group first.  Team will look to peers for help before going to teacher.  If there is no progress within 15 minutes team should at least check with two different teams before asking teacher for guidance.  Every effort should be done to maintain the delivery date of end product Inspect and Adapt over a Sprint Cycle

 Teacher will set up the projects that need to be completed within a sprint cycle.  Will set up rubric for acceptable end product  Will setup Edmodo account for all students  Will review sprint updates posted by each scrum master and provide feedback.  Is available to answer questions and help trouble shoot.  Will run the final review with scrum masters at end of each sprint cycle. Role of Teacher is similar to Product Owner in Industry
