Habit 6 Part II Synergize

Finding the High Way Synergy is more than just compromise or cooperation Examples of Synergy throughout history: The New Jersey Plan The Virginia Plan The Great Compromise

New Jersey Plan-every state should have equal representation ----Senate Virginia Plan- states with larger populations should have more representation ----House of Representatives

Getting to Synergy Step 1: Define the Problem or Opportunity Step 2: Their Way Step 3: My Way Step 4: Brainstorm Step 5: High Way pg.195

Define the Problem or Opportunity Decide whether you have a problem or opportunity Once you have decided, take the next step

Their Way Seek first to Understand the ideas of others Use genuine listening skills and really listen to what they have to say Find out how they feel

My Way Seek first to be understood by sharing your ideas If you have taken the time to listen to them, then chances are, they will take the time to listen to you Tell them how you feel

Brainstorm Create new options and ideas Work together to come up with new ideas Get creative-throw out your wildest ideas Avoid criticism- don’t criticize each other Piggyback- keep building on the best ideas, one great idea leads to another, and another, etc.

High Way Find the best solution After brainstorming for awhile, the best idea will come to the surface Ex: pg. 197

Teamwork & Synergy Great teams are usually made up of five or more types of people, with each person playing a different, but important role PloddersFollowers Innovators Harmonizers Show-Offs

Team Members Plodders- they stick to a job until it’s done Followers- supportive of leaders Innovators- creative idea people Harmonizers- provide unity and support, work together and encourage others Show-offs- fun to work with, but can be tough at times– they add spice and momentum to the team

Teamwork & Synergy Everyone works together to create the finished product Individually each person brings their part to the group and when they come together it makes beautiful music

“Even when you’ve played the game of your life, it’s the feeling of teamwork that you’ll remember. You’ll forget the plays, the shots, and the scores, but you’ll never forget your teammates.” -Deborah Miller
