Operational Delivery Networks (ODNs) Est. August 2015 to oversee delivery of new HCV treatment 22 ODNs across England, covering the North, Midlands & East, London (3 areas), and South regions Hub (leading hospital with expertise) & spoke model Treatment decisions overseen by a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for each ODN area ODNs should contribute to improved data collection around hepatitis C, with treatment paid for by NHSE on condition of data provided

Where do we go from here?

Joint Working Aim: Enhance patient access through better partnerships and shared responsibility Service specification: -Demonstrate well established links with a range of services: Mental health HIV services Third sector services; alcohol and substance misuse services Prisons -Have a plan in place to optimise partnership working with local expertise in engaging hard to reach groups in treatment programmes

Joint Working & ODNs ODN’s should ensure two things… Treatment nearer to patients through outreach spokes Better quality of care through MDT assessment of all patients under the supervision of each network hub

New Treatments for Hepatitis C New treatments approved cost-effective by NICE in November Antiviral drugs with cure rates of over 90% -Most people with genotypes 1 and 4 will be entitled to treatment, in theory.. -Genotype 3 treatment restricted to those with more advanced liver damage NICE guidance officially came into force on 23 rd February, with new treatments to be delivered through ‘Operational Delivery Networks’…

ODN Issues Differing capacity constraints across ODNs open up a risk of patchy, varied provision across the country: return to a ‘postcode lottery’ of care? A budget-based run rate for treatment will act as a cap, holding back the hospitals within ODNs that have more capacity: patient transfers necessary? Variability means a lack of clarity for patients about when they can expect to access treatment

Where do we go from here? The Hepatitis C Trust will be monitoring and comparing access to treatment across ODNs, including through: -Feedback from members of our Patient Council (est. 2016), to sit in on local ODNs -Regular Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to ODNs -Analysis of prescribing data from pharmaceutical companies Reporting on our findings and calling for improvements Sharing good practice across ODNs
