VI. Truancy Section A.  Reflects the change in the compulsory age of attendance: 16 to 18.  Gives the school the right to deem an absence excused/unexcused.

VII. EXCUSED ABSENCES Section A.  In addition to medical verification, gives the school the right to ask for other verification.  Gives examples of family leave (OCR tight point).

VIII. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES Section D.  Holds district accountable to consistent application of truancy procedures (OCR tight point).  Allows for a immediate referral to State’s Attorney’s Office if welfare of the child is in question.

I. ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES Sections E and F.  Cleans up the old language, redundancies, and reflects the move toward a more clear cut procedure for each level: elementary, middle, high school (OCR tight point).  While not new language, E clearly states the role of the teacher.

II.-III. K-12 TRUANCY PROCEDURES (same at all three levels with exception of C.-1 at elementary.) Section B.  Oral Communication Steps (OCR tight). Section C.  Written Communication Steps (OCR tight). Section D.  Intervention Strategies and Other Assistance (OCR tight).

II. TRACKING PROCEDURES Sections G-J  Clearly outlines the requirements of the Office of Civil Rights with regard to tracking, statistically analyzing, and reporting results to OCR (OCR tight).  Clearly outlines training requirements for all staff regarding truancy procedures (OCR tight).

 High School Truancy Flowchart (OCR tight).  Middle School Truancy Flowchart (OCR tight).  Elementary School Truancy Flowchart (OCR tight).

 Website for attendance and truancy policies/procedures (OCR tight).  Electronic tracking-Skyward  Development of a Truancy Tab in Skyward.  Facilitates more consistent reporting and tracking of truancy procedures.  Facilitates an easier means of pulling data from Skyward for reporting to OCR.  Facilitates an opportunity for those involved with truancy both to retrieve and analyze data.
