Exploring Computer Science Unit 2 Final Project Exploring Computer Science

Scenario Hancock has just been selected by Amazon to be the new distribution point for their drone delivery service. You have been hired by Amazon to work with their logistics team. Your team is tasked to carry out a fact-finding exercise for their new drone delivery system. One of the problems is to determine the fastest and shortest routes for a single drone to deliver twenty 5lb packages in the Cook County area.

The Rules The drone can carry 20lbs at a time and can make 4 deliveries before returning to the service center for more packages. The drone can only fly for 50 miles before it needs to be recharged. The drone flies at 50 mph.

Data The delivery locations are contained in the Word file on the Web Site. Use Google maps (or any other mapping site) to calculate the distances. Use the 50mph speed to calculate the times.

Data Here are the locations

Presentation You will present this to the class. Your presentation can be given as a poster, a PowerPoint, a video or other pre-approved product.

Your Presentation Must Include The names of people in your group. A picture (graph) representing all the locations with connections you considered between them labeled with mileages and times. A detailed plan of your solution including each trip the drone makes. The solution should be detailed as to the: Deliveries made on each trip. Distances between the delivery points. Times between each delivery point. Total distance and time for that trip. A written explanation of the strategies you used to pick the trips and to find the shortest routes. The solution on the graph, the total number of miles and the time.

Rubric Area Points Detailed Plans Overall plan to solve the problem (explanation of strategies) 20   Other parts of your project: Graph labeled with locations and mileages 10 Graph labeled with times Solution labeled on graph Total mileage and total time Presentation All group members participate Present all parts of the project Answer questions from audience Total 100

When is this due? Presentations will happen on Friday before Christmas break (12/18/15). You have this week to complete the project. This is a lot of work. Don’t waste time!
