Chapter 3.1 – Represent, Compare, and Order Decimals. Objective: Use place value to express, compare, and order decimals.

Number of the Day Subtract your age from your age multiplied by 100. When you divide the result by 11 and then divide your quotient by 9, what number do you get? (a x a) ÷ 11 ÷ 9 a = Age

Problem of the Day The money that Mrs. Frey deposited in her bank account was in $10 bills. The sum of the digits in the amount she deposited was 18. If she deposited $10 more, the sum of the digits would have been 1. How much did she deposit?

0.329 Standard Form

0.329 Expanded Form

0.329 Word Form Three hundred twenty-nine thousandths

When you say decimals, you always call them by their last place!

Ordering Decimals 1.Start at the left 2.Compare the ones digit 3.Compare the tenths digit 4.Add a zero so both have the same amount of digits 5.Compare the hundredths digit

Ordering Decimals 1.Start at the left 2.Compare the ones digit 3.Compare the tenths digit 4.Add a zero so both have the same amount of digits 5.Compare the hundredths digit

The “longer” decimal doesn’t mean the largest. Larger numbers near the decimal mean it’s a larger number!
