 Oceanic art refers to the creative works made by the native people of the Pacific Island and Australia, including areas as far apart as Hawaii and Easter Island.  The area is often broken down into four separate regions: Polynesia, Micronesia, Australia, and Melanesia.

 The Oceanic Art is still going on today.  This art started around 1500 BC.

 Because of the early time period, historians have no specific artist names for art pieces in the Oceanic Art. The only thing historians were able to find out were some of the tribes that were involved in this movement.

 Statuary has a common feature: the heads of its figures are exaggeratedly large.  Tattooing is a surface carving touching lightly a very simple original shape. The open-air sanctuaries were peopled with large or small images, in stone or wood.  The flat faces are contained in a rectangle or even a triangle.  The faces on the pieces are the faces of ancestors that have passed.
