Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology With Mrs. Jackson This presentation is posted on my website if you miss anything

Personal Information A member of the La Serna Science Department since UCI graduate with a B.S. in Biology Married and have 3 sons Mark, 12 years old Luke, 10 years old John, 10 years old

Purpose of this Course This course is designed for those students interested in pursuing a career in a medical field or health related field.

It helps develop a good foundation about the parts of the human body and how they work together so that students receive a head start to their college education.

This class is also for those students simply wanting to learn a course of study relevant to their lives.

This class will educate the student on how their bodies work and how to best take care of it.

The Course Outline Semester I UNIT 1- Chemistry and Physiology UNIT 2 - Cells and Tissues UNIT 3 - The Integumentary System UNIT 4 - The Skeletal System UNIT 5 - The Muscular System UNIT 6 - The Nervous System Semester II UNIT 7 - The Sensory System UNIT 8 - Blood and Lymph UNIT 9 - The Cardiovascular & Respiratory Systems UNIT 10 - The Digestive System UNIT 11 - The Reproduction System and Human Development

Grading Categories Tests (30%) Quizzes (15%) Unit work = worksheets, notes, and video notes (25%) Labs (15%) Participation (5%) Project/final (10%)

Website I will have the unit work list and the unit papers linked to my website. PowerPoints are also linked – so students who are absent can view them at home.

The Text Anatomy and Physiology by Mader Class set and one copy should be at home

Homework -Assignments not finished in class will be assigned for homework and are due the next day. This includes worksheets and labs. -Late work is accepted for ½ credit up until the day of the unit test. -This semester students need to study their root words for a quiz every Friday.

Other Info. No test or quiz retakes, but there will be a test redemption using the final. Missed labs must be made up within a week, likewise for missed quizzes or tests. Make up tests are short answer format. I don’t do root quiz make ups but will allow one dropped quiz. Students may take quiz ahead of time.

Grade Updates You should be able to view grades through Zangle and You should receive a report mailed home 4 times per semester

Other Information Please, consider becoming a member of Friends of La Serna (FOLS) –Membership is $25 –Direct donation to “Anatomy” and this class will receive $20 from your membership to purchase dissection specimens and more. –Through the years, we have received these items from Friends Dissection specimens Sound meters Body fat analyzers CPR mannequins, which allowed us last year to certify over 60 La Serna students! A full size skeleton Models of organs DVD’s

Fieldtrip –Scheduled in December to visit the L.A. Chiropractic College’s Anatomy Lab –Space is limited to the top 50 students. –There is about a $20 fee involved –This is an optional field trip

Parent-Teacher Communication I will issue “Choice Slips” to students who misbehave. This must be returned signed. is the quickest way to get a response from me.
