 After WWII Korea divided into two parts  Soviets in North  US in South  Soviets installed a communist government and US tried to defend the south

 Harlingen and Dyess Air Force Base reopened  Increase in Texas Crude Oil Production  Many Texans served on the front line

 Korean Conflict ended in 1953  3 million people killed in Korea  More than 1,700 Texans killed

 Communist controlled the North.  US supported the government in the south & maintain a democratic form of government.  Communist troops began moving south

 Hundreds of thousands of soldiers from US were sent to Vietnam to defend south Vietnam  Public support in US was shrinking

 Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait alarmed neighboring Arab States of Saudi Arabia & Egypt.  The U.S. was asked to help provide military support to help force the removal of Hussein & his troops when he refused to follow United Nations requests to withdraw from Kuwait.  The War lasted from August of 1990 to February However U.S. troops continued to occupy the area to provide
