Antrim used to have a castle that was the home of the Maserene family, The castle was built between 1610 and 1666 and the hexagon tower was built in 1887, The castle was once saved from attack once by an Irish Wolfhound and there is now a statue of an Irish Wolfhound outside the Antrim Forum leisure centre beside the castle, The castle was destroyed by a fire that started during a ball on 28 th October 1922, There is a legend that as a crowd was gathering below the castle a servant called Miss Ethal Gillgan, aged 22. appeared trapped at the window, Despite efforts to save her she is said to have died of her burns, Her ghost is said to haunt the castle dressed in white. Because of this local people call her the ‘White Lady,’ The tower is all that remains of the castle today

Antrim also has the Round tower. It was constructed by monks as part of their settlement in the early 10th century. According to legend a witch jumped off the top when it was finished out of anger at it being built. The witch then landed on a stone at the bottom leaving an impression of her knee and elbow in it. The stone is still there today and is thought to be fifteen hundred years old and is thought to have been a food preparation table for the monks. The Witch’s Rock ( and Ben)

This was the home of Alexander Irvine. He was a writer and poet. He wrote ‘My Lady of the Chimney Corner. This is what Dylan thought of Pogues Entry!!!!!

Antrim has a new outlet shopping centre called Junction 1. It is a good place to go for fun, food and fashion! There are often circuses, fun-fairs and on special occasions e.g.. Halloween there is a large fireworks display with some amusements.

Antrim sits on Lough Neagh. Lough Neagh is the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles. You can take a trip around the Lough on a small boat called The Black Pearl.

Clotworthy was built in the 1840s as a coach house and stables for Antrim Castle. It was restored by Antrim Borough Council as an Arts Centre in 1993 and has become the Borough's premiere venue for the presentation of drama, music and visual arts.
