Befriending the Library Learning Target: I can find resources in the library about an issue in a particular country.

Step 1 and 2: Country and Issue Go to Eckstein Library website Go to Online Student Resources on the upper right. Go to the database ABC CLIO. Go to the Countries tab on the top navigation bar. Select your country. On the left-hand side, go to History and Issues and then Contemporary Issues. Write down the 3 bolded headings. Read the paragraph about the issue that interests you most. Write down your issue.

Step 3: Book Look up your topic in the library online catalog. Be as general as possible. Write down titles and call numbers for books you find that seem relevant. Go find the book and write down: – # of chapters in the table of contents – The last index entry – Any websites listed in the bibliography or “For Further Reading” section If you can’t find a book on your country, write down the reason why.

Step 4: Magazine/Newspaper Go to Online Student Resources again. Go to eLibrary. Underneath the search box, un-check everything except for Newspapers and Magazines. In the search box, search for your country. There should be a big black box that pops up for your country. Click “Expand this Research Topic,” and scroll down to the section on Modern Society or the other heading (if that issue pertains more). Choose one article to look at and write down bibliographic information.
