Visit Objectives [Click here to add your objectives for your visit]

Visit Objectives “ We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability and circumstances.” Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto, DCSF (formerly DfES)

What is There to See and Do? Royal Palace of Madrid The official residence of Spain’s royal family, this 3,000 room palace is truly awe-inspiring. Highlights of this majestic palace include some sculptures commissioned by Velazquez and the extravagantly ornate private apartments of Charles III.

What is There to See and Do? Real Madrid Football Stadium Discover the emblematic Bernabeu Stadium, home of the Real Madrid Football Club, from the VIP box to the changing rooms, from the pitch to the Trophy Exhibition. All of the European Cups are on show, as well as the rest of the Club’s trophies and the most important matches of its history in a modern audio-visual room.

What is There to See and Do? Prado National Museum One of the world’s most important museums, this huge collection is a testament to centuries of devoted acquisition by the Spanish. This neo-classical building, located on one of Madrid’s most attractive streets, is home to more that 9000 works of art, mainly paintings, of which only 1500 can be displayed at any one time.

What is There to See and Do? Reina Sofia National Museum The Reina Sofia was remodelled in the 1980s, becoming the principal location for national and international exhibitions. The collection is almost exclusively of 20th century Spanish art, with works by many important artists, including Picasso’s Guernica.

What is There to See and Do? Royal Botanical Gardens These gardens, a symbol of the enlightened period of the 18th century, formed part of the urban re-arrangement project in the area of El Pardo undertaken by Carlos III, who inagurated them in Just like the nearby Prado Museum, it was designed by Juan de Villanueva, and in the different areas visitors will find trees, flowers and plants from all over the world, as well as exotic species in the greenhouses.

What is There to See and Do? World Heritage City of Toledo Toledo is one of the oldest towns in Spain and lies on a granite hill surrounded on three sides by the deep gorge of the river Tagus. The highlights of the town include its cathedral, towering Alcazar and its ring of Gothic and Moorish walls. A day trip includes a stop in Aranjuez, just 45 kilometres south of Madrid, whose palace served as the official spring residence of the Kings and Queens of Spain.

What is There to See and Do? Flamenco Shows A traditional Flamenco Show is a great way to spend an evening during your time in Madrid. We offer shows and classes all year round, as well as packages to include drinks or evening meals.

What is There to See and Do? Bullfighting Museum The Museum contains paintings of bullfighting scenes and portraits of bullfighters, sculptures, drawings, engravings - including a series of Goya’s Tauromachy - and bullfighting posters from the 18th century. It also displays suits, capes from the 19th and 20 th centuries, stuffed bull’s heads, and a collection of historic documents related to the bullfighting world.

If you have any doubts, please contact the relevant embassy to check visa requirements, especially for non-British nationals. This could equally be relevant for British nationals dependent on the destination. You will need to apply in good time, as non-issue of visas is not covered under the cancellation section of your insurance, and you may not be allowed to travel as a result.] [If you will have a Collective Passport for your group, please say so here.] If you have any doubts about passports or visa requirements, please see me at the end of this presentation.
