Climbing jack Operating sequences

Lifting sequence

Starting position Wedges Closed Load applied to top of jack Load taken by top anchor Top anchor Hydraulic rams, double acting Bottom anchor Square steel climbing bar Steel wedges with teeth to grip the climbing bar (typical). Can be opened and closed hydraulically when not loaded Wedges Closed

Lifting – Step 1 Action: Extend rams approx 25mm to transfer the load to the bottom anchor Wedges Closed

Lifting – Step 2 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Open the top anchor wedges

Lifting – Step 3 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Load lifting stroke. Fully extend the rams

Lifting – Step 4 Wedges Closed Action: Close top anchor wedges

Lifting – Step 5 Wedges Closed Action: Retract rams approx 25mm to transfer load to the top anchor

Lifting – Step 6 Wedges Closed Wedges Open Action: Open bottom anchor wedges

Lifting – Step 7 Wedges Closed Wedges Open Action: Fully retract rams

Lifting – Step 8 Wedges Closed Action: Close wedges in bottom anchor. Lifting sequence complete

Lowering sequence

Starting position Wedges Closed Load applied to top of jack Load taken by top anchor Top anchor Hydraulic rams, double acting Bottom anchor Square steel climbing bar Steel wedges with teeth to grip the climbing bar (typical). Can be opened and closed hydraulically when not loaded Wedges Closed

Lowering - Step 1 Wedges Closed Wedges Open Action: Open bottom anchor wedges

Lowering - Step 2 Wedges Closed Wedges Open Action: Extend rams to 25mm short of fully extended

Lowering - Step 3 Wedges Closed Action: Close wedges in bottom anchor

Lowering - Step 4 Wedges Closed Action: Fully extend rams to transfer load to the bottom anchor

Lowering - Step 5 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Open wedges in top anchor

Lowering - Step 6 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Load Lowering stroke. Retract rams to 25mm from fully retracted

Lowering - Step 7 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Close wedges in top anchor

Lowering - Step 8 Wedges Open Wedges Closed Action: Fully retract rams to transfer load to the top wedges Lowering sequence complete
