Regrouping To arrange in a new grouping
Let’s review addition without regrouping. Our total was not 10 or more so we didn’t have to regroup. +
Addition with regrouping is used when our answer is 10 or more. We can only put 9 ones in the ones place. So a 10 is equal to 1 group of ten and 0 ones.
TensOnes
Four ones plus eight ones equal twelve ones in all. 4 ones + 8 ones ones in all
We can regroup the 12 ones as 1 tens and 2 ones. 1 tens 2 ones
is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 2 in the ones place. We regrouped the 12 ones as 1 in the tens place
Let’s try with two digits
Twenty nine ones plus 4 ones equal 33 ones in all. 2 tens 9 ones + 4 ones = 33 ones in all
We can regroup the 33 ones as 10 ones and 1 ones = 33 3 tens 3 ones
We can regroup the 10 ones as 4 group of ten and 1 one. 5 ones3 tens 6 ones = +
= is equal to more than 9 so we had to regroup. and 1 in the ones place. We regrouped the 10 ones as 4 in the tens place
