Reflective Questions What is your understanding of active learning? How do you decide what mix of activities is appropriate to meet the stage of development and learning of students? Which strategies do you currently use to develop pupil understanding? How much of your current teaching is delivered using active approaches? How do you provide opportunities for pupils to apply learning in ‘real life’ situations?

Learning Intention We are developing our planning and delivery of active learning

Format : Welcome Individual task – Hand out 1 Paired task – using reflective questions Whole group task – video clip 9.1 Paired task – sharing & revising of pre-task Extension task – Hand out 2 Action Plan

Pre-task Think of a lesson which has traditionally been taught in a passive way

Individual Task Read Hand out 1 - Building the Curriculum 2 – Active Learning Professional Practice Guide

Paired Task Use Hand out 2 to explore how you might answer some of these reflective questions Share or view these for a brief whole group review

Paired Task Share your pre-task “passive” lesson Choose one of your two lessons and make it more active Pairs will share with another pair 20 mins
