City of Snoqualmie Tokul Roundabout Project April 10, 2012

Project Scope The project is located along the Snoqualmie River between the Snoqualmie Falls Park and the SR 202 Bridge over the Snoqualmie River Existing roadway geometry at the intersections of SR 202 and Tokul Road and Mill Pond Road do not meet current standards and create unsafe traffic conditions for the motorists who travel this segment of SR 202 every year

Project Scope (continued) The intersections will be reconfigured and combined into one single lane modern roundabout which will control vehicle speeds and provide increased safety along the SR 202 corridor The project also includes installation of: new storm drainage system Illumination system Curb and gutter Pedestrian facilities Roadway paving, channelization, signing, landscaping, irrigation Offsite wetland mitigation

Design Considerations Trucks/oversize vehicles and roundabouts  Roundabouts are designed to accommodate vehicles of all sizes  Emergency vehicles  Buses  Farm equipment  Tractor trailer trucks  Roundabouts are designed with a truck apron, a raised section of pavement around the central island that acts as an extra lane for large vehicles  The apron facilitates large vehicles that need extra room to complete a turn in a roundabout, drivers should remember never to drive next to large vehicles in a roundabout

Intended Outcome Improve the safety for the motorists who travel this route each year Provide safe multi-modal facilities for pedestrians travelling between the Snoqualmie Falls Park and the downtown area The roundabout is anticipated to be the City’s “gateway” feature welcoming visitors to the City of Snoqualmie

Roundabout vs. Intersection A four-leg single-lane roundabout has 75% fewer vehicle conflict points and no crossing conflict points compared to a conventional intersection

Benefits Making it a safer for the drivers and pedestrians to access the Snoqualmie Falls and Snoqualmie historical downtown area; Making it safer for the through traffic along this stretch of State Route 202 due to decreased speeds, improved signage and reduced traffic conflict points; Upgrade the storm drain systems to current standards; Provide a gateway feature for visitors entering the City of Snoqualmie

Coordination with WSDOT WSDOT is in the final stages of plan acceptance and approval of the Channelization and Geometric Plans WSDOT is in support of grant funding for the project

Coordination with the Muckleshoot Tribe The project plans, and right of way is being coordinated with the Muckleshoot tribe who also owns the Salish lodge

Coordination with PSE PSE was provided a copy of the latest plans PSE will conduct their own relocation which is close to but outside of the project limits

Environmental Environmental permits are up to date including NEPA Environmental permits are being coordinated with various state agencies such as the Dept. of Fish and Wild Life, and the Dept. of Ecology, as well as Federal agencies such as the US Army Corp of Engineers Wetland Mitigation plan has been approved

Right-of-Way Right of way acquisition is not needed. A right of way easement is being coordinated with the Muckleshoot Tribe

Schedule & Design Contract We are pursuing grant funding HDR is close to the 100% completion
