Passive Voice You want to show that object has the larger importance than subject

We use passive forms when: ►W►W►W►We don’t know who did it; ►T►T►T►The window was broken an hour ago. ►W►W►W►We are interested in what happens, not who it is done by; ►T►T►T►This watch was bought yesterday. ►T►T►T►The situation is rather formal; ►S►S►S►Smoking is not allowed.

Passive Voice (be + V3) ► Somebody cleans this room every day. ► (active) ► This room is cleaned every day. ► (passive) ► The object of the active verb becomes the subject in the new sentence.

Passive Voice in Present, Past and Future Simple. Present Present Simple Simple Am/is/are + V3 The work is done. Past Past Simple Simple Was/were + V3 The work was done. Future Future Simple Simple Will be + V3 The work will be done.

Remember ► If we want to say who does the action, we use by: ► This house was built by my grandfather. ► If somebody does the action with the help of instruments, we use with: ► Meat should be cut with a knife.

Choose the right preposition: ► This big tree was cut down …. Jim. ► The poem was written …. Pushkin. ► Those pictures were painted …. colored pencils. ► A soup is eaten …. a spoon. ► This work will be done …. him. ► Cheese is cut … a special knife.

Irregular verbs ► Give – gave – given ► Buy – bought – bought ► Take – took – taken ► Build – built – built ► Make – made – made ► See – saw – seen ► Write – wrote – written ► Do – did - done
