Some US Flood Statistics 5  Floods of all kinds represent a leading cause of fatalities and economic losses in the United States  Over last 30 years causing an average of 82 fatalities and $7.96 Billion in damages per year in the US per year  National Flood Insurance Program  5.25 Million Policies in Force  Over $1.2 Trillion of insurance coverage in force  From 2010 to 2014, the average flood claim amounted to nearly $42,000.  From 2005 to 2014, total flood insurance claims averaged more than $3.5 billion per year.
