Worship: Bringing God Glory Sermon 6 of 6 March 27 th 2016 “Worshipping Jesus”

Jesus’ Resurrection Changed Everything. He offered himself for our sins as our sacrifice. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” This is the Easter message and why it has power in our lives today.

Romans 1:1-6 on page Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

Consider Worship Before and After Jesus’ Resurrection

#1 We Worship Jesus Because… John 1:29 says, “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

#2 We Worship Jesus Because… John 6:35 Jesus says these words: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

#3 We Worship Jesus Because… John 8:12 reads, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

#4 We Worship Jesus Because… John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

#5 We Worship Jesus Because… John 11:25–26 Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”

#6 We Worship Jesus Because… John 14:6: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

#7 We Worship Jesus Because… John 15:11, Jesus desires that our joy be full and in John 16:22 tells us that no one can take away this joy.

#8 We Worship Jesus Because… John 14:16: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”

#9 We Worship Jesus Because… Romans 6:8-10 “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.”

#10 We Worship Jesus Because… Revelation 1:7-8: “ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “ who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

The Tension at the Crucifixion They waited for three days unsure that the promise of his resurrection would come true, how could it?

Matthew 28:1-10 page 1550: Earthquake and an angel rolled back the stone and sat on it. “Don’t be afraid.” “Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples.” Jesus met them. They clasped his feet and worshipped him.

Jesus Stayed 40 Days 1 Corinthians 15:6 – Appeared to 500 witnesses at once. We will all worship Him. Philippians 2:10-11 reads, “ so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Think About It! The tomb was left open, and empty, so that we could see in - not for Jesus to get out. What do you see when you look inside?

The Tomb is Still Empty! Note: Our Next Series is Through 1 John.
