Math Parent Involvement Workshop November 11, :45 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Second Grade

Station One – Math Games Addition War -Use a deck of cards. - Each player turns over two cards. -Each player adds up the cards. -Player with the highest number wins. Subtraction War -Use a deck of cards. - Each player turns over two cards. -Each player subtracts smallest number from larger number. -Player with the lowest number wins. Comparing -Use a deck of cards, remove face cards. - Each player turns over three cards. ____ ____ ____ hundreds tens ones -Players compare their numbers. -Player with the highest number wins What you need: -A deck of cards -Remove 10’s, Jacks, Queens, Kings -Make sure your child knows a Ace can be an 11 or 1. Their choice.

Station Two – Math Fact Flashcards Creating Flash Cards Step 1:Count out number of index cards you will need Step 2: Write Facts on your cards Front side: 8 + ___ = 10 Back side: 2 Front Side: = ____ Back Side: 17 Step 3: Two Ways to practice at home Step 4: Practice until you no longer have to use your fingers to solve them. 1 st Way: - Have someone flash your cards to you. -Try to solve it without using your fingers. - Make two piles: a pile of the ones you know and a pile of the ones you don’t. 2 nd Way: -Have someone create a test made out of your facts. -Take a timed test and see which ones you need to practice. 2-3 minutes is good.
