Suntech STP200 Making Light Work of Energy Student Number:
Facts on Solar Power SunPower Corp. has produced a full-scale solar cell with a sunlight to electricity conversion efficiency of 24.2 percent at its manufacturing plant in the Philippines (SunPower Corp., 2010) The typical manufacturer's warranty on a solar panel is 25 to 30 years (Morgan, 2010) Positive Impact on the environment Attitude impact on the public Fig. 1
Uses for Solar Power Home Heating and hot water heating is achieved by using a solar collector that consists of a glass container insulated by a solar absorber made from sheet metal painted black and attached to copper or a series of metal tubes encased in a near vacuum glass cylinder. The solar panel then heats the tubes which in turn heat the “working fluid” which then heats the water in a holding tank and then goes on to provide heating and hot water for a household. Home Electricity- converting solar energy into electrical energy by means of a solar cell. Electrical chargers- Trickle chargers and generators. Fig. 2
Future of Solar Power California Aspirations. Replacement for fossil fuels. Reduces carbon footprint. Areas Solar Panels can be applied to. Fig. 3
