The Hofstatter Garden… …an outstanding example of rainwater harvesting

The street in front of the Hofstatter house drains through the yard. By channeling the runoff from the neighborhood, they harvest enough water they only occasionally have to supplement with water cans. This is native manzanita in the foreground.

As well as collecting water from the street, they also collect water from the rain gutters and downspouts. This channel waters a corner of the yard that has a large shade tree and waterwise flowers. See the next picture.

Many of the native plants were salvaged from construction sites

Native juniper volunteers

Looking from street toward the back yard this gives a good perspective of the main water channel that carries water to most of the front, side, and back yard.
