Course Description The Japanese 3 class is designed to expand and strengthen the four skills Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The class will be conducted mainly in Japanese. 日本語

Course Description Continued Students will learn to compare things or actions, express preferences and ability, distinguish various speech styles and forms, justify actions, express information through hearsay and explain customs in Japanese.

Objectives By the time the student completes the course he/she will be able to: –Compare and contrast Japanese and American customs and ways of thinking –Handle a part-time job in a Japanese speaking community –Make an invitation over the phone –Explain a sporting event –Discuss and compare folk tales

Objectives Continued Ask and give directions using a map Teach how to make a Japanese meal Describe a relationship with a family member Talk in detail about school life Discuss a problem with a close friend Offer and accept advice Read and write basic kanji

Textbooks Adventures in Japanese Level 2 Textbook and Workbook Ch. 15 Adventures in Japanese Level 3 Textbook and workbook Ch. 1-10

Grading All tests, quizzes, homework, assignments, speeches, oral performances, class participation and projects will be given a point value. At the end of the grading period, all points will be calculated for a letter grade.

Grading Continued A % B % C % D % F – 59% and below

Exams and Quizzes Quizzes will be given weekly to enable students to check their progress on a regular basis. Quizzes cannot be made up except for excused absences.

Class Participation / Performance Students will be graded daily on class participation and performance to encourage consistent day-to-day effort.

Homework Homework assignments must be complete to receive credit. Late homework will not be accepted except for excused absences. Homework assignments are worth 10% of total assessment points.

Classroom Expectations Be prompt to class. Be in your seat when the bell rings. Be courteous to your teacher and classmates. Ask questions and seek clarification whenever a point is not clear. One person speaks at a time. No gum, food or drink in class (except water.
