Chapter 1 Fox’s Bike

Fox liked to show off for the girls. “Oh my!” said the girls.

One day, Fox showed off a little too much. “Look out!” cried the girls. “Look out!”

Fox was saved. But his bike was a wreck. “That’s okay,” he said. “I’ll ask Mom for a new one.”

“Fox,” said his mother, “I’m not made of money. If you want a bike, you have to get a job.” “A job?” said Fox. “There must be a better way.”

Fox asked his sister Sue for money. She didn’t help. “Get out of here,” she said. “Or I’ll scream!”

“Who needs a bike? Not me.” Then Carmen rode by. She had a new bike. “La la la,” she sang. “Okay,” said Fox, “I do want a new bike.” So Fox went to find a job.

Chapter 2 New Shoes

Fox went to town. He saw a sign in a shop. The sign said, “Help wanted.” “This is my lucky day,” said Fox. He went in the shop.

“I’m here to help,” said Fox. “Not so fast,” said the boss. “Can you sell shoes?” “Yes,” said Fox. “Do you lie?” said the boss. “No! Never!” said Fox. “I tell the truth.”

“Well,” said the boss, “let’s give it a try. Get busy.” The boss went to eat lunch. Fox got busy. “What an easy job!” said Fox. A lady came in the shop. “Can you help me?” she said.

“I’m here to help,” said Fox. “I need some new shoes,” said the lady. “Some pretty pink ones.” Fox looked at her feet.

“Your feet are too big,” said Fox. “I never saw such big feet. They don’t make shoes that big!” “Well, I never! How rude!” said the lady. “What’s wrong?” said the boss.

“He said my feet are too big!” she cried. “Oh no!” said the boss. “Your feet are tiny.” He looked at Fox. “This job is not for you,” he said. “Well, I never!” said Fox.

Chapter 3 The Haunted House

Fox went to the amusement park. “I like rides. Too bad I don’t have money.” “I heard that,” said the park boss. “Do you want a job?” “Do you mean it?” said Fox. “I’d like to work here! What fun!”

The boss told Fox, “We need help at the Haunted House.” “What’s in it?” said Fox. “Oh, it’s very scary,” said the boss.

Fox’s first customers were Carmen and her brother Mike. “One kid’s ticket,” said Carmen. “Aren’t you going in?” said Fox. “It’s not scary,” said Carmen. “I like to be scared.”

Fox and Carmen waited. “What’s taking so long?” said Fox. “Maybe Mike is lost,” Carmen said. “Go look for him,” she said. “Me?” said Fox.

“Why me?” said Fox. “Are you scared?” said Carmen. “Me, scared? Not me!” said Fox. He went in. It was really scary.

“Welcome to the Haunted House!” cried a skeleton.

“I’m coming to get you!” cried a ghost.

“Boo!” cried a vampire bat. Poor Fox was white as a sheet.

“Hi, Fox,” said Mike. “I’ll show you how to get out.”

“That’s no place for kids,” Fox said to the boss. “I quit!” “Ha!” said the boss. “Little kids love it!”

Chapter 4 Pizza Time

Fox saw Pig coming out of the pizza shop. “You can’t fire me,” Pig said, “because I quit!” “Fine,” said the boss. “I hope my next delivery boy won’t eat all the pizzas!” Pig left mad. Fox went in the shop.

“Do you have a job for me?” said Fox. “Do you like pizza?” said the boss. “I like hot dogs more,” said Fox. “Great!” said the boss. “Are you fast on your feet?”

“I’m fast as the wind!” said Fox. “Great!” said the boss. “Take this pizza to Mrs. Rabbit. She’s been waiting a long time.” Fox was out the door in a flash!

Going down the hill, Fox ran faster. “I’m the fastest fox in town,” he said. Fox’s sister Sue was taking her pet mice to the vet to get shots. She came around the corner.

It was a big crash! Fox, his sister Sue, and everything else went flying. They saw stars!

“Look what you did!” said Fox. “You made me late! I’ll really have to hurry!” Fox ran off.

Fox’s sister Sue went to the vet. Doctor Jane opened the box. “Where are your pet mice?” she said. “This looks like a pizza!” “Uh oh!” said Fox’s sister Sue.

Fox knocked on the door. “It’s about time!” said Mrs. Rabbit. She was mad. “I’m having a party. And we’re dying for pizza. We’re starving!” she said. Fox said, “It’s worth waiting for.”

“Pizza time! The pizza is here!” Mrs. Rabbit said to her friends. She opened the box.

Back at the pizza shop, the boss was mad. “Mrs. Rabbit called,” he said. “You’re fired!” “Didn’t she like the pizza?” said Fox.

Chapter 5 A Great Idea

“This just isn’t my day,” said Fox. “But I’m not giving up. I’ll think of something.” He came to a furniture store. Suddenly, he had a great idea!

“Business is bad, Fox,” said the store owner. “I can’t give you a job.” “Maybe you can,” said Fox. He told the owner his idea.

Later, Carmen and Pig went for a walk. “Look at that,” said Pig. A big crowd was in front of the furniture store.

“I can’t see,” said Carmen. “Lift me up.” Pig lifted Carmen over the crowd. “What’s going on?” said Pig. “It’s Fox!” said Carmen.

“What a great bed!” said someone. “I want one!” said someone else. “What a great idea!” said the boss. But Fox was asleep. He was dreaming of his new bike.
