DLP: DIGITAL LIGHT PROCESSING Presentation made by: Aleena Anwer 9c-White

WHAT IS A DLP? DLP stands for Digital Light Processing. It is based on a chip developed by Texas Instruments, which contains millions of tiny mirrors.

HOW DOES IT WORK? These microscopic mirrors are activated when they receive a digital video or graphic signal to reflect the image onto a screen. This technology is used in televisions and projectors. The lamp in a DLP projection system generates white light that passes through a color wheel filter of red, yellow and green, which can create millions of vibrant colors. DLP technology enables transfer of an exact mirror image from the source at the highest resolution available.

ADVANTAGES OF USING A DLP Benefits of DLP Technology: There are several unique benefits that are derived from DLP technology.  small package size  The DLP chip is faster than any other digital imaging technology  better contrast, sharpness and clarity.  higher contrast video  reduced pixilation.  ideal for high-definition television (HDTV). These days it is most relevant in the low priced, low resolution SVGA class of products.

DISADVANTAGES OF USING A DLP  The "rainbow effect," which is simply colors separating out in distinct red, green, and blue. Basically, at any given instant in time, the image on the screen is either red, or green, or blue, and the technology relies upon your eyes not being able to detect the rapid changes from one to the other. Unfortunately some people can. Not only can some folks see the colors break out, but the rapid sequencing of color is thought to be the culprit in reported cases of eye strain and headaches. Since LCD projectors always deliver a constant red, green, and blue image simultaneously, viewers of LCD projectors do not report these problems.
