doc.: IEEE Submission 13 Feb, 2008 Richard Miller-Smith, PhilipsSlide 3 Purpose To rationalise the current list of applications into a set of high-level applications. These applications are then categorised along the traditional medical/consumer split, as well as through a general ‘application bitrate’ requirements. These applications can then be scored in a number of areas, for example ‘quality’ requirement, and graphed – which helps to identify groups of applications with similar requirements.

doc.: IEEE Submission 13 Feb, 2008 Richard Miller-Smith, PhilipsSlide 6 Bitrate Classes The grouping of applications imply two or three ranges of bitrate that could be targeted. Low Rate: –Typical bitrates up to ~33kbps –Advise channel bitrate > 66kbps –Power figures & quality more important than actual bitrate Med/High Rate –Need more application input –Typical bitrates >200 kbps –If necessary advice channel bitrate > 400 kbps
